There are four major identifiable factors that cause bleeding in early pregnancy:

1. Infection

This is the number one cause of early pregnancy bleeding. Sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, and bacterial vaginosis need to be treated.

2. Miscarriage

The loss of your baby is another possible reason for early pregnancy bleeding. You need to be seen by your doctor or midwife. Your doctor will perform an ultrasound and draw blood to confirm the loss of your pregnancy. *Check out this post for more information about miscarriage –> https://pearently.com/what-to-do-after-miscarriage/

3. Implantation bleeding

Implantation bleeding may be the cause of early pregnancy bleeding. This occurs as the newly conceived baby burrows into the uterus. This is a normal process. *Check out this post for more information about implantation bleeding –> https://pearently.com/what-is-implantation-bleeding-or-spotting/

4. Unknown.

The last reason is the unknown. Sometimes bleeding occurs early in pregnancy and the cause is never identified. Talk to your healthcare provider about your concerns.
