Anticipate & Adjust in Birth

Should I go to my prenatal doctor’s appointment

What is the best option when it comes to going to your doctor’s appointment?

Situations come up and you don’t know if you should go to your prenatal appointment: you don’t want to get sick, you are sick, your kids are sick, etc.

These are my recommendations. This should not take the place of your healthcare provider’s recommendations. This is educational information not medical advice.

Are you low risk or high risk?

  • Do you have concerns or complications in your pregnancy?
  • *Most women are placed in the low risk category during their pregnancy. However, things can happen during your pregnancy that place you at high risk.
  • Low Risk Mama (13 to 16 visits)
  • High Risk Mama (>16 visits): Hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, BMI greater than 30, age, multiples (twins, triplets, etc.), previous obstetrical history (preterm birth, difficult delivery, etc.).

Do you feel your baby move everyday?

Is your healthcare provider willing to do a phone call visit with you at the time of your appointment?

  • If you are able to stay home, then talk to your healthcare provider about doing so.
  • If you have to go in to see your healthcare provider, then take these precautions:
    • Wash your hands frequently.
    • Stand up in the waiting room and stay at least 6 feet away from others.
    • Only bring one support person to office and leave children at home, if possible.
