What Is Mid Cycle Menstrual Bleeding or Spotting?

Many women are concerned about bleeding/spotting when it comes to getting pregnant. I understand (well, kind of).

Let’s talk about the possible causes of mid-cycle spotting or bleeding and ease your anxiety.

We are going to discuss three possible causes of mid-cycle spotting

1. Ovulation bleeding

This happens in a small number of women. It is associated with the release of your egg from your ovary mid-cycle. The bleeding/spotting can be accompanied by some lower uterine cramping and discomfort.

2. Implantation bleeding

This usually occurs 3 – 7 days after ovulation. This happens when the fertilized egg starts to burrow itself into the uterine cavity to create a healthy environment for your developing baby. Implantation bleeding is nothing for you to be concerned about. Your baby is just getting comfortable.

3. Early menstrual bleeding

You have been “regular” your entire life with 28-day cycles, and then you find yourself bleeding on day 25. Weird? This might be abnormal for you, but it might simply mean you are experiencing an early menstrual cycle. There is nothing to be concerned about here.

I hope these 3 simple explanations put some of your anxieties to rest.
