Edifying the Sisterhood – Encouraging Other Mamas in Pregnancy

From a silent seat at a baby shower to the children’s nursery at church, these women hear negativity, fear, and horror whenever the process of birth is brought up.” -Phylicia Masonheimer.

Hey Mamas, I’m Annabelle, nurse, birth doula, and Mom. I recently read an AMAZING blog post by Phylicia Masonheimer, author of Christian Cosmo: The Sex Talk You Never Had and Fruitful: A 12 Month Guide to an Abundant Single Season.

In this particular blog post, “4 Things Christian Women Can Stop Saying About Pregnancy and Birth”, she lovingly instructs Christian women to edify and use their discernment when speaking about pregnancy, labor, and delivery.

We are sisters in Christ, and we are of the same sex. Shouldn’t we be on each others team, not in competition with each other? And yet, it often seems like we hear more horror stories about pregnancy than we hear encouragement.

Christ, through his Word instructs us to edify one another. Pregnancy, labor, and birth are not easy tasks. It is a beautiful journey that we were created to embark upon, but we need positive companionship on the hike.

When I was pregnant, I had dreams of how I wanted my birth to happen.

I had realistic expectations that things might change, but I wanted to have a positive mindset and the peace of God so that I could embrace whatever happened.

I have a mom that was incredibly encouraging, but I also had a lot of other women around me not encouraging me. I heard horror stories, I was told that my plan for birth wouldn’t happen, and I was told many other things that discouraged me.

But then I talked to one woman that told me she had a beautiful birth, and that I could do the same! She was a game changer for me.

This is why I recommend that you read Phylicia’s blog post. She brings into focus what the world is saying, what God’s Word says, and she is very encouraging.

I want to encourage you in your pregnancy journey to consider finding a strong positive influence to walk alongside you, edify you, and help you prepare your mind, body, and soul for what is to come.

I would love to help. I will come alongside you, support you, encourage you, and impart motherly and medical wisdom to you.

This all starts with your first step. I created a free workbook that will take you through my strategic process for birth, and your first step is to download that workbook. This workbook includes my 4 Step Process that is a great start if you are considering a med-free birth. Download below…

I am excited to be talking to you again soon!

Lots of Love,
Annabelle, RN/BSN/Birth Doula/Mom
