I love coffee. I want a hot cup of coffee when I get up in the morning.
But when I was pregnant, I didn’t want coffee. I still wanted the caffeine though. If you are like that, then don’t resort to soda. All the sugar can lead to gestational diabetes and weight gain. Diet soda has aspartame and can lead to other health concerns.
But we are talking about coffee today (I got a little sidetracked).
So, you are pregnant, and you are wondering how much coffee you can drink…
It is recommended that you do not drink more than 200 mg of caffeine per day. Two cups of coffee has 190 mg of caffeine. So, your intake should not be more than about two cups, or 16 ounces of coffee per day.

Think about your daily coffee cup. Now compare it to a measuring cup. Maybe you thought it was only a cup of coffee, but it is WAY more. I’m not judging because that happened to me. Yikes. Time to find a different coffee size.
Also, you want to be sure you are keeping track of how much sugar you are consuming with your coffee. Try to stay away from Frappuccinos, lattes, creamers, and other added sugar (the good stuff that will kill you).
Side note: when I say coffee, I mean plain ol’ coffee. It is easy to forget that shot of espresso you get added to your coffee every morning.
Last, don’t forget to drink water. I recommend that you drink 60 – 100 ounces of water per day as a baseline. Get a water bottle that you love, fill it up, drink it up, and do it again. Coffee is a diuretic, which means it makes you pee more. You have to think about replenishing your body and your baby’s swimming pool (amniotic fluid).
Keep it up, Mama. You are doing great. I would love to be by your side every step of the way.
