5 Mistakes Women Make While Pregnant

If you are thinking about getting pregnant or you just recently got pregnant, then you are in the right place.

I’m Annabelle, nurse, doula, and mama at Pearently, and I am talking about 5 mistakes women make when getting pregnant.

But you are not going to make those mistakes because you are here!

So, let’s jump into the mistakes that women make and help you stay away from those mishaps.

1. No clear focus → you need a plan, a roadmap. You need to think about your options, make a plan, and practice how to make that plan happen.
  • Do you want an epidural or a natural birth experience?
  • Who is going to coach you through labor and help you decrease unnecessary hospital interventions?
  • Do you know how to practice relaxation and breathing techniques to have a faster labor process?
  • Do you have strength for the road ahead?

*Wow. There is so much to plan. Don’t feel like you have to do this on your own. I want to help you make a plan that is easy to follow in your pregnancy and childbirth.

2. Soak up misinformation → you need an encyclopedia in funeasy access form. You need someone who is medically trained and can break the information down into bitesize pieces.
  • Many Mamas learn from bad sources (misinformation).
  • Learn in fragmented forms (books, apps, blogs…).
  • Get overwhelmed by all of the information.

*You need a trusted source. Pearently is a great place to start. I am a trained and registered nurse and birth doula, and I have had my own natural birth experience.

3. Assume the unknowns are unnecessary → you need to know. Don’t just “wing it” in birth! You need preparation and practice.
  • “I know as much as I need to know to get through birth.”
  • “I don’t need to know, I’ll just go into labor on my own.”
  • “I will just take it as it comes and figure it out as I go along.”
  • “I don’t need to know about birth to have a baby.”
  • “I am too busy to do any prep work, and my doctor will take care of me.”

*Mama, you need to know about your body and your baby. I know it is hard to understand everything, but I want to help in an easy-to-understand way so that you can have a healthy and safe labor and birth.

4. Look at the wrong Mamas → get a mama role model. You need to find positive feedback in your pregnancy and birth plan.
  • “Mamas give me LOADS of advice I didn’t ask for, and I don’t like what I hear.”
  • “There are lots of naysayers and women in competition with me.”
  • “I don’t need a role model, I’ll just figure this out on my own.”

*Get with a group of women that are desiring to give birth or have given birth in a way you admire. Find your mama role model, and spend time being open with her about your needs, desires, and plans in your pregnancy.

5. Give up → get resilience. You need to resolve inside of yourself that you can have a healthy and safe pregnancy, and have a fearless labor and birth.
  • Some Mamas had a plan and didn’t stick to it when the road got hard.
  • Dad wasn’t prepared to support Mama because he wasn’t trained to be supportive.
  • MANY Mamas feel like their doctors and nurses wouldn’t let her follow her plan.
  • Mama felt like it was just too hard to follow the plan.
